TREE REMOVAL & FELLING

DIRECTIONAL TREE FELLING :

Where space and safety permit the tree can be felled in one piece.

DISMANTLING : Also known as Sectional Felling>>>

Very often space is limited and the tree must be taken down piece by piece. if the area below the tree is clear and free from obstructions the cut branches can simply be allowed to fall. When branches are too large or heavy for the climber to hold and throw clear or obstacles prevent their free falling, then lowering ropes must be used.

CROWN REDUCTION

Complete reduction of the size of the tree. By careful removal of the crown to produce a smaller sized canopy. This is very specialist work, normally no more than 30% of the total tree should be removed at any one time unless safety is an issue. Branches should be removed to growth points wherever possible.

CROWN LIFTING

The removal of lower branches to lift the height of the crown.

DEADWOODING

The removal of dead branches, to reduce the hazard of them falling onto buildings, vehicles, or the public.  

POLLARDING

The removal of all branches leaving just the trunk. Pollarding is not aesthetically pleasing initially. this can only be carried out on certain species. Pollarding is an extreme form of tree surgery which requires regular upkeep.

THINNING

This involves the reduction of the density of the crown. This would not normally be carried out on conifers, so it is generally confined to deciduous broadleaf trees.
